My love for writing began when, fresh out of college, I sat in front of a typewriter in my mother's kitchen. My mother, Mary Higgins Clark, is a well-known mystery author, and I would often retype her entire novels so she could submit her latest work to her agent. As I typed, I had the opportunity to explore her stories and characters, and I found the encouragement and inspiration I needed to practice and define my own craft.
Learning from the Best
As I worked with my mother, she explained everything that she was doing, which slowly taught me how to write. I learned how to bring my characters to life on the page, become active in my own story, and trust that my books would bring pleasure, laughter, and excitement to my readers.
After working with my mother on more than 15 novels, I was less afraid to start on my own. Our time together has given me strength and courage to trust in my abilities. I am able to let myself have fun with the writing process while doing everything possible to tell the best story I can.
Writing is more than my job—it's my passion. It's an integral part of my life, and it continues to inspire me every day.
